Beauport is trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies and has proven over the years to be equally as strong as both a hurdler and chaser, a great versatile trait to have in his locker.
The horse has seen a success over both codes, it was hurdling where he made his name first. In March 2021, the horse would win the EBF Final at Sandown, and not only that, but he would come away to win by 11 lengths. In such a competitive handicap, the horse would blow the opposition away, a first indication that he could be a strong runner for the yard.
A year later, he would land a good intermediate chase at Carlisle, showing that he was able to take his ability and transfer it over fences. But it was a couple of years after, in March 2024, when the horse would land the first big win of his career over fences.
It would be a staying test too, as he landed the Midlands Grand National at Uttoxeter, showing that he not only had the stamina to get home, but also the right attitude to battle it out and win.
He wasn’t really fancied in the market that day, but proved plenty of people wrong, and set up what his future would look like. It was going to be staying races all the way from here.
The 24/25 season saw him win another big staying race, this time the Berkshire National at Ascot, a race that he completely dominated and won by 31 lengths. That set up his Grand National bid, with connections quickly deciding to train him for that straight after.
Ahead of his trip to Aintree, to preserve his handicap rating, Nigel Twiston-Davies would send the horse back over hurdles. He ran in the Grade One Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot in December 2024, and he did brilliantly, finishing a very respectable third in that race.
Going back over fences, and to the Grand National, Beauport would complete the course in his first attempt at the bigger obstacles of Aintree, and finish in 12th position with Sam Twiston-Davies on board.
