Broadway Boy before the 2025 Grand National

Broadway Boy, foaled in 2018 and trained by Nigel Twiston-Davies, would have a following during his early chase years, with plenty of people latching onto the horse due to his never say die attitude and great jumping ability.

He would save his very best for Cheltenham racecourse, with his career highlights coming at that track. When it came to the Grand National, the horse would be aimed at the race for the first time in 2025.

A second season chaser, one that loved a long distance, he was seemingly tailor made for the race, and went into it with a solid chance. Unfortunately though, he would take a crashing fall near the end of the race at fence 25, which saw him and Tom Bellamy depart. There was concern over the horse afterwards, but a day after the race, he was given the all clear to return home and begin his recovery from his own stable.

The 2023 season was when Broadway Boy would really hit the headlines, with a run of impressive performances, and they included winning a £100,000 handicap chase at Cheltenham. Coming over three and a quarter miles, he was already showing a real liking for longer trips.

He didn’t jump the best that day, but was resilient, and led pretty much the whole way, something that fans love, and it was the start of many people really liking this horse and his attitude.

During 2024, things didn’t go to plan all of the time, but a 2nd placed finish in the Coral Gold Cup (former Hennessy) was a strong run, and again, his jumping let him down on occasion there.

The Grand National had been spoken about for some time, and it was seen as the type of challenge he needed, which led him to be targeted at the race.
