Chris's Dream Grand National Wins

Chris's Dream has never won the Grand National.

They have never finished the race.

Chris’s Dream has been trained by Henry de Bromhead for the majority of his career and ran in a number of high-quality contests. He’s won at Grade Two and Grade Three level over the years, as well as trying his luck in the Grand National.

That came in 2021 for this horse, who was foaled in 2012, but sadly he was not able to get all the way round the course. He wasn’t far off but unseated his rider at the 27th fence, four out from the finish. While he may not have won that day, he was going fairly well and would have been a player to get into the places, had that happened, it would have been a great run.

Chris’s Dream’s Early Years

Chris’s Dream began his racing career with Eugene O’Sullivan, where he would have a total of six runs. Five of those would come under rules, including his debut in a flat race, while he would also run in one point-to-point contest, the second race of his career, and also the first win of his career.

He would run in two more flat races after that, failing to win, before switching to hurdles and finishing second on debut before backing that up with a win on his second start.

The switch to Henry de Bromhead would them come, and if you want any kind of indication about stable confidence and feeling behind the horse when he arrived with de Bromhead, on his first start, he was put straight into a Grade Three novice hurdle, which he won.

He would go to the Cheltenham Festival next, finishing down the field in the Albert Bartlett Novice Hurdle, a Grade One contest, and then it was time to go chasing the year after. He would win his chasing debut, winning by three lengths at Navan in December 2018, before moving up in grade through the chasing ranks, proving this would be the discipline where we saw the best of him.

Chris’s Dream’s Big Race Wins

Chris’s Dream won at grade two and three level, doing so over both hurdles and fences, but failed to get a Grade One success under his belt. A Grade Three novice hurdle at Clonmel in February 2018 was his first graded win, and a comfortable one at that, he won by 64 lengths and booked his place at the Cheltenham Festival on the back of that.

He won a Grade Two Novice Chase at Naas to land his second graded win, which came the following year, at the start of 2019. At the end of that year, he won a big handicap, the Troytown Handicap Chase, again at Naas, and despite this being a competitive handicap, he won with ease, recording a distance of nine and a half lengths.

Just a few months later, he would win the biggest race of his career, the Grade Two Red Mills Chase at Gowran Park. That set him up for the Cheltenham Gold Cup, where he finished 10th of 12 runners.
