Milan Native Grand National Wins

Milan Native has never won the Grand National.

They have never finished the race.

Gordon Elliott has trained Cheltenham Festival winner Milan Native during his career, owned by the Gigginstown Stud operation. However, it was for Denise Foster who he officially made his Grand National debut for, as she took over the license from the Elliott yard due to a suspension.

Foaled in 2013, it is probably fair to say that the horse failed to hit the heights that were expected of him during his career, but he did make the Grand National in 2021. Ridden by Jamie Codd, he was pulled up at the 29th fence, two from home, after tailing off and failing to get the trip.

Milan Native’s Early Years

Milan Native would begin his racing career in November 2018, running in a national hunt flat race at Leopardstown. He was third that day but wouldn’t be given another chance in a flat race, as he was sent straight hurdling after that.

It was the right decision, as he won on his hurdling debut and followed that up with a great run to finish third in a Grade Two contest. Further good runs would follow, but no more wins would come, and then he would go chasing the following season.

However, he struggled to get a win on the board in that sphere, not doing so until his sixth start over the bigger obstacles. This would be a big race win, though, so it was certainly worth the wait.

Milan Native’s Big Race Wins

The win that Milan Native would secure came in March 2020 at the Cheltenham Festival. The horse won the Kim Muir Handicap Chase, one that is open to all horses, but he won this despite being a novice.

While other placed efforts have come, including in graded company, this horse has failed to add another big race win to his Cheltenham success.
