Music Hall Grand National Wins

  • 1922 - ridden by Lewis Rees trained by O Anthony

1922 Grand National Music HallMusic Hall would run in the Grand National three times in his career, and he would win the first of those three efforts. Coming back twice after that, he would fail to complete on both occasions, when carrying plenty more weight on his back after a result of the win.

Going off with an SP of 100/9 on his winning day in 1922, he was not overly fancied but certainly seen by some as a lively outsider. Before heading to Aintree, he had proved his stamina on multiple occasions, he was a horse that looked better the further he went in distance.

The race was carnage from start to finish and described in the press as being a race where the luckiest horse would win, not the best. Two false starts kicked us off, which some horses struggled with, and from the 32 runners, just five would actually finish.

While all the drama was happening around him, Music Hall kept his head, avoided the trouble, and kept going forward, credit where it’s due to jockey Lewis Rees, who steered him around. In the end, it was his stamina that won the day. While others were tiring around him, Music Hall kept going and would pass the others and cross the line in the first place.
