Senior Chief Grand National Wins

Senior Chief has never won the Grand National.

Their best finish to date was in 2025 where they came 6th. They were ridden by Darragh O’Keeffe and trained by Henry De Bromhead.

Senior Chief horse

A slow burner gradually going through the national hunt ranks, Senior Chief has worked his way up the ladder in the yard of Henry de Bromhead, to make a name for himself.

He would make his Grand National debut in 2025 at Aintree and ran a very respectable race to finish in 6th position.

This was his first time running at the course and facing the jumping test that it brings.

Senior Chief’s Early Years

He would begin racing in April 2022, with a trip to Cork for a national hunt flat race. He would finish second in that, which, looking back, was a good effort considering he needed much further in distance.

Hurdling would come next, and he would bag two victories in this sphere to show that he was an improving and more than capable horse.

Chasing would follow, and like many Grand National runners, this was always going to be where he would be at his best, and Senior Chief didn’t disappoint.

The Irish Grand National was his main target in 2024, though that didn’t end well for him as he was pulled up. However, it was an indication that staying chase races were going to be his future.

The following season saw him go to Cheltenham in October for a staying chase, where he won, and from that moment, the Aintree Grand National was a real possibility for the horse. Trained with that in mind after the Cheltenham win, he did go to Aintree and did put up a really good effort to claim 6th place.
