Workman Grand National Wins
- 1939 - ridden by Tim Hyde (1) trained by Jac Ruttle

A runner in two Grand Nationals, placed in them both, and winning one, Workman had a genuine love for Aintree racecourse and the test that horses get in the Grand National.
He would first grace this race in 1938 when he would run really well and finish third. A year later, back for more, and despite a rise in the weights, he was good enough to win this time.
With a winning distance of three lengths and a returned starting price of 100/8, the Irish runner would get the job done, and it would be the last time we’d see him in the Grand National.
When running in the race a year before his success, he was under a completely different team of jockey and trainer, but when he won, jockey Tim Hyde was on board, and he was trained by Jack Ruttle, making it a full Irish team taking care of him.
For Ruttle, this would be the only runner he would ever send to the Grand National, while Hyde won his only race here but did have a total of six attempts in the race.
In one of the more forgetful years of Grand National action, Workman would get the job done.
