Adrian Heskin has seen success on both sides of the Irish Sea during his career as a jockey, firstly in Ireland but then also in the UK after a switch to be based there, which came in 2016. Born in 1992, Heskin began his career in Ireland, where he formed a nice relationship with trainer Michael Hourigan, one that led to many early winners.

He next teamed up with Barry Connell, a prominent owner in Irish racing, and was retained to ride his horses for a period of time. This led to graded success, including at the Cheltenham Festival. But after a period of success, Heskin wanted something different and decided it was time to move to the UK to try and form a career there.

In September 2016, he was announced as the new number one stable jockey at the Tom George yard in Gloucestershire, England. It was the perfect start for them, as nine days later, with their very first runner on the track, they landed a winner, with Kilbree Kid winning at Perth to kick things off.

Success would come for the pair, and the piloting skills of Heskin would aid a resurgence by George, and while they never hit the top level of UK racing, they certainly became a partnership that were worth keeping an eye on.

Heskin’s first Cheltenham Festival winner came on board A New Story in the Cross Country Chase at the meeting, a race that needs a jockey to ride well and show off his skills, something Heskin certainly did at this stage.

The Grand National didn’t come onto Heskin’s radar until 2017, which is the year he had his first attempt at the race, riding Double Shuffle for Tom George, though he was pulled up at the 29th fence.
