2023 | Eva's Oscar | Fence 21 - Unseated Rider | - | Tim Vaughan |
Welsh jockey Alan Johns has moved into the spotlight a little after setting up to become a jockey for fellow Welshman trainer Tim Vaughan. The pair have had plenty of success together, and while not too much of that has been at the higher levels of racing, there’s been enough for them to catch the eye.
Johns first had success on a racecourse back in May 2013, when he rode Rebel Alliance to win in a Hunter Chase. Since then, he’s grown to be a regular rider on the Southern racing circuit, and as his partnership with Tim Vaughan has grown, he’s been the supplier of many of the rides we’ve seen him take.
In 2023, Johns made his Grand National debut, and it was Vaughan that supplied the horse for him to do that. Eva’s Oskar was the horse he rode, and it was also a first trip around the Aintree Grand National for the horse too.
They didn’t quite complete, though, at the 21st fence, Johns was unseated from his mount, bringing the race to an end for him and his ride, who was a grey horse incidentally, which would have added a little more focus onto Johns and the horse.
