Brian Hayes is an Irish national hunt jockey that has worked under many of the bigger names in Irish racing. He was born in 1988 and began his riding career as an amateur jockey. He rode his first winner at Clonmel in March 2008, aged 19, and followed that up a few days later by winning on the same horse again.
Three years later, he turned professional, and that led to him working with the likes of Shark Hanlon, Michael Winters, Gordon Elliott, and after those, Willie Mullins. During his career, Hayes has ridden some nice race winners, though success at the very top level is not something he’s found yet. Grade Two and Three winners have happened, but nothing at Grade One level.
Willie Mullins gave Hayes his first taste of the Grand National with a ride in the 2021 race. He rode Class Conti in the race, one of many chances that the Irish handler had sent across the Irish Sea in a bid to try and win the race again. The pair did manage to complete the race but could only finish 15th in the end, a solid start, but leaving plenty of room for improvement in the future from Hayes.
