Harry Bannister is a jockey that has graded successes to his name, but so far, something at the very top level of racing, either a Grade One contest or a huge race like the Grand National, has eluded him.
Bannister has managed to find his way in the racing industry with a great list of contacts, freelancing but being able to ride for a wide range of stables, who all seem happy to call on his services. His best year as a jockey came in the 2021/22 season. He rode 49 winners that season, a personal best, and then added over half a million pounds in prize money, another personal best.
He has won at Grade Two level before, but Grade One racing has so far been out of reach, which is part of the problem with freelancing and picking up rides from various stables.
The 2022 Grand National was his first experience in the big race at Aintree, though sadly, it wasn’t a great one. He rode Domaine De L’Isle, trained by Sean Curran, but the pair could not complete the course. Bannister was unseated from his mount at the 15th fence, halfway round in the race, and he will be hoping to have more success in the future.
