Hugh Nugent Grand National Wins
Hugh Nugent has never won the Grand National.
Their best finish to date was in 2023 with Fortescue who came 13th.
|2022||Fortescue||Fence 26 - Unseated Rider||-||Henry Daly|
Hugh Nugent is a national hunt jockey who has spent time riding for the likes of Venetia Williams and Henry Daly. He had his first Grand National ride in 2022, and it was actually a chance of a fairy-tale win, though ultimately, that didn’t come off.
In his first ride, Nugent was on board Fortescue, a horse running in the colours of his grandad, so he got to go out onto Aintree racecourse in those colours and try to win. Sadly, the pair didn’t manage to get around the full course, as Nugent was unseated at the 26th fence, just four from home. It was Nugent’s first ride in the race and will no doubt be used as a valuable learning experience for him.
Elsewhere, big race success has not been easy to come by for him so far, but with some nice stables providing him with chances to ride their horses, he is undoubtedly in the right position.
The Grand National is a race that Nugent certainly has marked on the calendar and one that he would love to win. A family tradition was to head to the race each year and stay over near the course, with a much younger Nugent being on the course the day that one of his bosses, Venetia Williams, won the race on Mon Mome.
