Kielan Woods

Kielan Woods has been in racing for many years, though despite that longevity, he’s not yet become a mainstay in the top end of the sport. Based in the South of England and operating with a number of middle-sized yards, including Alex Hales and Ben Pauling, Woods has been popular, picking up plenty of rides and turning some of those into winners.

He’s not had much success when it comes to claiming big race rides but has been to the Grand National once, thanks to Graeme McPherson. He gave Woods the ride on Ami Desbois in the 2021 Grand National, with both jockey and horse going around Aintree for the first time.

The pair managed to get around the course for almost the first circuit before being brought down at The Chair, which is the 15th fence and at the end of the first circuit.

He would begin his path into racing in the pony circuit, where he would leave with more than 70 winners, perfecting his trade before moving onto horses. This was in Ireland, so at 19 years old, he decided to move across the Irish Sea and to the UK, a move that has been a real kickstart to his riding career professionally.
