Starting off with Paul Nicholls and having the chance to ride some very nice horses from that yard, Nick Scholfield had an excellent start to his racing career. Since then, he’s moved away from the Nicholls team but continued to go in the right direction.

He’s been a regular rider for some Southern yards, with connections to Rebecca Curtis, Richard Hobson and Jim Culloty, amongst others. This has given him a solid career, even if it is one that has lacked really big race wins so far.

Scholfield made his Grand National debut in 2008, riding the Paul Nicholls-trained Cornish Sett. It was a successful round, completing the course, with the pair finishing a respectable 12th position. They returned a year later to finish 17th, and the first four rides for Schofield in the race all came for Paul Nicholls, resulting in two completions and two early falls.

In 2013, Schofield rode Teaforthree in the race, trained by Rebecca Curtis, and this gave him his first-placed effort, finishing third in a race that was won by Auroras Encore. He’s got a wide range of experience over the big fences in the Grand National and other races, making him a popular choice at Aintree.
