2023 Gabbys Cross Fence 15 - Fell - Henry De Bromhead

Peter Carberry is one of the Carberry family, and like many of those with the family name, he has been heavily involved in horse racing throughout his life, choosing to carve out a career as a jockey. Partnerships with decent trainers have given Carberry enough rides to make a living from the sport, though he’s never been one to have regular big race rides or wins.

Despite having plenty of different associations in Ireland, through both trainers offering him rides and his family connections, Peter had to wait a long time for his first ride in the Grand National. However, that would finally come for him in 2023, with a mount of Henry de Bromhead, who had two runners in the race. Stable jockey Rachel Blackmore got the first pick and choose Ain’t That A Shame, with Carberry picking up the horse that was left after the decision was made.

The horse that Peter Carberry rode was Gabbys Cross, though things did not really go to plan, and the pair were unable to finish the course. Carberry would fall from the horse at the 15th fence in the race, ending their hopes of completing the Aintree Grand National course on their first attempt.
