From the famous Bowen family of racing, Sean Bowen is another one to show incredible talent in the sport. His father, Peter Bowen, is a successful trainer, while his brother James has also shown his talents as a jockey.
Sean had an excellent start to his racing career at a young age. He was very strong in the point-to-point scene and won the award for being the leading novice rider in UK point-to-point racing. After that came success under rules, winning the 2015 conditional jockeys championship and the hands and heels championship.
The accolades kept coming during that year, with two wins at the Lester Awards, firstly for being best conditional jockey and secondly for jump ride of the year.
Success on the track continued to come, and in 2019, Sean Bowen won his first race at Grade One level when If The Cap Fits won the Liverpool Hurdle at the Aintree Grand National meeting. Further success at the top level would come to enhance his reputation further and get him many rides away from his dad’s yard.
Sean has yet to have a Grand National ride for his day but has been in the race a total of seven times for other trainers. His first Grand National ride came in 2015 when he completed the course with Mon Parrain, finishing in 11th position.
