1915 Grand National: Results, Runners & Fallers

Grand National 1915 Ally SloperThe 1915 Grand National took place at Aintree Racecourse, and it would be the last one to do so before an enforced break due to the war.

For the following three years, Aintree Racecourse would be used as a war office, so the race was unable to take place and would move to Gatwick Racecourse under a different name.

Conditions were good, with the going also officially described as good on the day, and the winner of the race was Ally Sloper, who would record a winning distance of two lengths.

The winning trainer was Aubrey Hastings, winning his second Grand National race, and he would go on to win another two, making him a four-time winner in total and giving him one of the better training records in the race.

The jockey was Welshman Jack Anthony, another one who had a really good Grand National record. This win on Ally Sloper would be the second of three in total; his first win came in 1911 on Glenside, and all three wins came within a 10-year period.

Finally, a note on the winning owner, who was Lady Nelson. By winning this, she became the first female owner to win the Grand National.
