We had a back-to-back winner in the 1936 Grand National, as Reynoldstown would add to his success in 1935 and once again cross the line in first place. He would win this time by a 12-length margin, though it was significantly helped by the fact that Davy Jones ran out and left him clear in front near the finish.
Going on the day was described as good, and 10 of the 35 runners would complete the course.
For trainer Noel Furlong, this would be his second success in the race, both with the same horse, and they would be the only wins he recorded.
Amateur jockey Fulke Walwyn took the ride but didn’t ride a year earlier, so he was experiencing his first and only Grand National win here.
Son of Noel Furlong, Frank Furlong, rode a year earlier, but he retired from riding before this, so the ride was given to someone else, and Walwyn was the lucky man chosen.
After impressing in the race a year earlier, Reynoldstown was sent off at 10/1 to win again this year, though wasn’t favourite, as Golden Miller, winning in 1934, was the 5/1 favourite, with a lot of public support behind him.
