Beginning her training career in 1998, Emma Lavelle has had her fair share of good horses over the years, making her a trainer who people followed, but she’s not really had anything at the very top level, except for one horse. That is Paisley Park, the horse who really put Emma on the map, increasing her popularity in the sport.

Lavelle is yet to win the Grand National, but runners in the race have so far been limited. One of the reasons for this is because many of her runners tend to be hurdlers, she doesn’t operate with too many staying chase horses, which limits the chances of her having a runner in this race.

Paisley Park has been the flagbearer for her training, winning multiple Grade One races, including the 2019 Stayers Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival and the Long Walk Hurdle at Ascot. While ever she is training horses of that calibre, attention on Lavelle will only grow, which could lead to more horses in her yard, bigger names arriving, and ultimately, may lead to more opportunities to win the Grand National.

In 2016, the future of the yard was secured and given a new lease of life when Lavelle moved to train at the famous Bonita Racing Stables. Better facilities, including excellent gallops and, crucially, more room to keep horses, gave her the bump she needed at exactly the right time. In her first year training from the new yard, Lavelle had 35 winners, compared to just 19 in her final year at the old premises, and things since then, thanks to a bit of help from Paisley Park, have gone from strength to strength.
