Also known as N W Alexander.
An amateur trainer initially from 2002, Nick Alexander would take out a full license and turn to professional racing in 2007. Since then, he’s had plenty of success, training three-figure winners and becoming a familiar name on the Northern circuit.
The Alexander family is one that is sewn into Scottish racing history and also has a connection with the big fences at Aintree. In 1967, Nick’s father trained the winner of the Aintree Foxhunters Chase, a race for amateurs in the sport, ran over the big Grand National fences.
Over the years, we’ve seen Alexander work towards improving the yard in terms of both quality and numbers, something that he’s certainly managed to do. That’s led him to being represented in some of the bigger races on the calendar, and one of those he’s managed to get involved in is the Grand National.
In 2019, Lake View Lad, the stable star at the time, would take part in the Grand National, a first for the horse and trainer, with Henry Brooke taking the mount. He was fancied to run a decent race, but stamina was always going to be an issue, and he was pulled up at the 27th fence.
