Peter Fahey

Beginning life as a trainer in 2010, Peter Fahey picked up his first winner in the same year when he won a flat handicap at Dundalk in October of that year with a horse named Intyre Trail. Fahey initially broke into the sport as a jockey before turning to training. He had a very successful spell as an amateur rider, resulting in just under 100 winners in the saddle.

Fahey began are a trainer covering both codes of racing but has since specialised in national hunt racing, and this is where he’s had the majority of his success and all of his big race wins. Peregrine Run really put Fahey’s name in lights, winning 16 times during his career, a wonderful record overall.

Elsewhere, Belfast Banter was the horse that gave Fahey his first win at Grade One level when he won the big Novice Hurdle race at Aintree in 2021. Three weeks before that, the same horse gave Fahey his first Cheltenham Festival win when he won the County Hurdle, one of the biggest festival handicaps.

Owega Star, a horse that won at Grade Two level for Fahey, as well as winning six times for him in total, was his first Grand National runner, which came in 2015. He completed the course under Robbie Power and finished 13th that year with jockey Robbie Power in the saddle.

In 2022, for the first time in his training career, Peter Fahey finished inside the top 10 for the Irish Trainers Championship, showing the growth he’s had in the yard, both in terms of regular winners and prize money earnt, so things are moving in the right direction.
