Limerick Lace Grand National Wins
Limerick Lace has never won the Grand National.
Their best finish to date was in 2024 where they came 10th. They were ridden by Mark Walsh and trained by Gavin Cromwell.
Foaled in Ireland in February 2017, the mare, Limerick Lace as at 2024 is owned by JP McManus. She have a very brief involvement with flat racing in 2021, however it will have been obvious she had the making of a stayer. She has truly delivered for her owner since entering rules races, notably hurdles and chase races races. An excellent track record, taking many wins.

2024 Grand National
Having had an excellent run in the 2022 season and 2024 season, Limerick Lace was a dead cert to be entered into the Grand National. Probably ready for a go in 2023 but 2024 was her maiden ride.
Bookies deemed her the favourite and obviously so give the number of first’s she has had.
She was chosen to be ridden by Mark Walsh a seasoned Grand National Jockey, who in recent years has demonstrated he is entirely capable and consistent to complete the course.
Having watched her in the pre parade ring , Limerick Lace’s stable hand decided to keep her walking calm by the stables and not send her down to the parade ring. Something seemed slightly off in the horses body language. This can be a sign of great things to come or this can be the beginnings of the horse simply not up for the race.
Limerick Lace was one of the last horses to settle ready for the off – suggesting something wasn’t perfect for her. At the start of the race Limerick Lace held her space in the rear of the pack but was badly impacted at fence number eight. Then she had a further mishap around fence 27 which lead her to drift away and not have the pelt and power to make an impression on the run in. Placing 10th is in the grand scheme of things OK, however given the new race safety procedures and the amount of space afforded for horses, Limericks Lace didn’t really deliver as expected.
