Kevin Sexton

Irish jockey Kevin Sexton has had a career of ups and downs but has been able to win at the very top level, landing his first Grade One success in April 2021, which actually came at Aintree, the home of the Grand National. This was also the year of his first Cheltenham Festival success, and both came onboard the same horse, Belfast Banter.

He would rise through the ranks, beginning with pony racing before becoming a flat jockey and finally making the switch to national hunt racing. He’s had an association with Peter Fahey in Ireland, and the pair have managed to team together and have a few winners and a good amount of success in the sport.

After three flat winners, Sexton made the move to national hunt racing and really hit the ground running. In the 2013/14 season, Sexton claimed the Irish conditional rider championship, with 22 winners during that season.

He would have his first Grand National ride in 2021, when he partnered with Shattered Love in the race, completing the course on his first attempt and finishing in 10th position. The ride was officially for Denise Foster, who was taking care of the Gordon Elliott yard while he was suspended.
