Initially, into racing as a rider for the great David Nicholson, Martin Keighley would eventually get into training racehorses via a move to work for Cheltenham racecourse building their fences. Not only that, but Keighley would spend so much time at the home of national hunt racing that he also became an expert in reading the ground and the best places to be on the track in a race.

All of that became useful for Keighley when he entered the training ranks. Keighley has made a name for himself as being a thinker in the game, one to try new things and someone who may look from a different angle compared to many, all of which have come together to give him success on the track.

While most of his success has been at a lower level, the odd nice horse has given Keighley wins in good races. In 2013, Any Currency would become his first Grand National runner, ridden by Ian Popham.

The horse would fail to really get involved in the race, but he was able to complete the course and would finish 17th. While all big races are a target, his local track of Cheltenham is one that Keighley certainly targets with his better runners.
