Ben Pauling began his own training career in 2013, but prior to that, he gained some valuable racing experience at one of the biggest yards in UK & Irish racing. This was with Nicky Henderson, where Pauling would spend six years as his assistant trainer before deciding to go alone.

It was hard work that took Pauling to where he went next. He wasn’t starting with a good bunch of horses and big owners spending money. He began with just eight horses, most of which were owned by his friends and family, but despite that, Pauling had a good start and went from strength to strength.

Now, Pauling is in a state-of-the-art racing yard, with almost 100 horse boxes waiting for him to fill, fantastic facilities including all-weather gallops, and a setup that many trainers would dream of having. Given the fact that this is now there for Pauling, and he continues to move in the right direction, it would be no surprise to see further success come to this team over the next decade.

Success At A High Level

While talking about the success that could come in the future, it is important to remember that Ben Pauling has already tasted some of that. Whether it’s the Cheltenham Festival or Aintree Grand National Festival, Pauling has trained winners there. From the likes of Willoughby Court to Le Breuil, Kildistart, Global Citizen and Barters Hill, Pauling has already tasted what it feels like to be in one of the biggest winners’ enclosures in UK racing.

Some trainers take their time to get going, but in the first ten years of his training career, Ben Pauling has already been given good horses and shown his ability to win big races with them, which certainly bodes well for his future career.

Pauling’s first Grand National runner came in 2022, and the horse taking him to the race was Kildisart. Sadly, he fell at the 15th fence under jockey James Bowen to end his chances of winning the race. Given the facilities that Pauling has and what he’s shown already, he’s certainly going to have more runners in races such as the Grand National moving forward and will no doubt have his eyes on winning this big prize.
