Jenkinstown Grand National Wins

  • 1910 - ridden by Robert Chadwick trained by Tom Coulthwaite

Jenkinstown Horse

The winner of the 1910 Grand National was Jenkinstown, and while he may not be one of the leading Grand National names, the race is worth remembering about for your future Grand National quiz questions. The 1910 contest was the first to have motion pictures beamed away from the course, so for the first time ever, those away from Aintree saw video footage of the winner.

That horse was Jenkinstown, sent off at 100/8, which is around 12/1 in today’s pricing. It was a tough test, officially soft ground, but it was much tougher than that, as only five of the 25 runners would actually be able to complete.

The horse was trained by Tom Coulthwaite, and this would be the second of three wins he would have in the race. He targeted the Aintree showpiece, more so than most others, and was rewarded throughout his career, including this year.

Toughing it out the best, the horse would return home and win by three lengths. His other attempts at the race would come in 1908 before, and then 1911 and 1912 after his win. All three had something in common, that the horse would fail to complete the course, falling in 1911 and pulling up in 1908 and 1912.
