The well fancied favourite Jerry M would record success in the 1912 Grand National at Aintree racecourse, coming away to win the race by a winning distance of six lengths.
On soft ground, seven runners would win the race and sent off at 4/1. There was plenty of support behind Jerry M, who would win as the favourite and reward those supporters.
This support came on the back of a near miss the last time he ran in the race. He would finish second in 1910 for Robert Gore. This time, with that experience under his belt, he was able to go one better and collect the win.
Gore was also his trainer for this success, and it would form the first of back-to-back successes for him in the race, as he would also win the 1913 Grand National with Covertcoat.
In the early part of his career, he would record some placed finishes too, four in total, holding a strong Grand National record, although his last 20 runners in the race before retirement would all fail to finish.
Ernest Piggott was the winning rider on the day, and this success would be his first Grand National win. He would go on to have two more victories in the race, both coming on Poethlyn in 1918 and 1919 for Harry Escott.
He would end his riding career with a very respectable three wins in the race, and to make that even better, they came from just 12 rides.
