The winner of the Grand National in 1891 was Come Away, who would win on his one and only run in the race at Aintree racecourse, in what was described as a narrow finish in the records of the race.
On the day, conditions were described as good to firm, so the ground was quick, and six runners managed to complete the course and finish.
Despite running in the race for the very first time, Come Away was fancied by punters, and he was sent off as the 4/1 favourite in it, leading the on course market after support from punters.
He would only just win the contest, though, beating Cloister by half a length to take the prize.
The winner from the previous year, Ilex, was third this time around, while the second Cloister would go on and finish second again a year later, then win the race a year after that in 1893.
The winner had a father and son combo as the trainer and jockey, Harry Beasley, and son Harry Beasley, doing the business.
Trainer Beasley was having the first of three attempts to win the Grand National, he would have no further success in the race. Jockey Beasley had a complete lack of luck in the earlier part of his career with this race but finally got rewarded for his hard work.
He had four placed efforts before winning this, three of them being 2nd placed finishes, and they all came in a row from 1884 to 1886.
